Lake weather swings hard — a cold, foggy launch can turn into a hot afternoon and back to a chilly paddle home after sunset. The trick is layers you can shed and re-add without stopping the trip.
The base layer
Start with a soft cotton or tri-blend tee. It breathes in the afternoon heat and wears comfortably under everything else. This is the piece you'll live in.
The midlayer
Add a long sleeve for sun and bugs, then keep a hoodie in the dry bag for first light and the paddle home after dark. Cotton-rich fleece is forgiving and gets softer every trip.
Top it off
A cap keeps the morning sun out of your eyes; a knit beanie takes the edge off a cold dawn. Small things, big difference.
